One of the key players driving the Innovex Estevan Bears to their best season in franchise history, and one of the top goaltenders in the SMAAAHL, has signed on to begin his junior hockey career next season.
Evan Hutcheon (Regina, SK) has committed to play for the Warman Wolverines of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) in the 2026-27 season on Monday, April 13th.
“Evan had a tremendous year in U18 AAA and we are very happy with his development to this point. He is a high character kid that loves to compete. We are looking forward to working with him.” said Wolverines Head Coach/GM Brett Pilkington in a release on the team’s social media.
Hutcheon burst onto the U18 AAA scene in 2025-26, his first and only season with the Bears. After a slow start for the team, Hutcheon ignited an incredible 13-game point streak for the Bears running from late October until mid-December. During that stretch, Hutcheon was named the SMAAAHL November ‘Goalie of the Month’ with a (7-0-0-1) record, .911 SV%, and 2.98 G.A.A.
Hutcheon finished the season with a (19-8-1-1) record, .910 SV%, 2.98 G.A.A. over 30 starts, en route to being named the SMAAAHL ‘Most Valuable Goaltender’ in the year end league awards. Hutcheon now owns the single-season franchise record for wins, SV%, and G.A.A.
Evan Hutcheon was the 6th Bears’ player to commit to the SJHL from the 2025-26 Bears’ roster.
